Thanksgiving

0

Hi everybody!

In our last English lesson we were watching a video clip about the story of Thanksgiving.

I'm going to summarize the content for you.

In 1620 a sailing ship called "Mayflower" arrived on the east coast of the USA. With this ship came the English people called Pilgrim Fathers to the United States of America.

When they arrived, it was nearly winter and they didn't have any food. The Pilgrims didn't know, that the winter is going to be very long and so they only eat small fish.

There were no houses, so they had to build some out of wood (log houses).

After the long and hard winter they need food very fast. Suddenly Indians came and they showed them how to become a farmer. So they harvested many vegetables. It was so much, that they could make a big meal.

The Pilgrim Father invited the Indians, who helped them to become farmers, to a big meal after the season. Everybody was happy and they celebrated through the night.

The Pilgrims decided to celebrate this every year and so Thanksgiving had been invented.

Now people in English speaking countries celebrate Thanksgiving with dishes including turkey, potatoes and pumpkins.

Entertainment - Mrs. Worthington - Noël Coward

0

Hi everybody

Last week in our English lesson we were talking about entertainment and fame.
To be famous is not always easy. I think there are many advantages and disadvantages.

Pros for being fame:

You maybe have a lot of money.
Everybody perhaps knows your name.
You are probably able to travel all over the world.

Now some cons:

You find hardly time for your family and your friends.
You never have time for you, that means you have no privacy.

In our lesson we were divided into four groups and every group got a lyric of a song. My group got the song "Mrs. Worthington" from Noël Coward. In his song he wants to tells us, that parents shouldn't force their children, if they wouldn't be famous. We discussed some questions and believe that Noël Cowards ee fame as something negative because I think, that he has made bad experiences with this topic.

I personally think that being famous is not always easy. It's cool if you have a lot of money and if you can travel around the world but I would have a problem if I would not see my friends and my family.

Here is the link to the video!
Enjoy it!

Clichés and Prejudices

2

Hi everybody,

I was reading an article the other day in the magazine Spotlight and it talks about clichés. I thought you might bie intersted, too because its about clichés and prejudices. Basically what it says is, that the Europeans have many prejudices of the USA.

I think it is so, because we aren`t well informed of this topic. Anybody considers with this topic, but everybody talks about it.

There are many prejudices, stereotypes and facts, we know about the USA, but how many are true and how many are only prejudices. One of the prejudices about the USA is, that the Europeans think americans have no culture. This is a lie, the article talks me that there is already many culture in America, but the Europeans don't know much about that.

There are some many facts, prejudices and stereotypes, I can't tell you all. Let me give you my opinion. Everybody should judge for himself. You should not tell lies, but to deal with the issue. In my opinion it does not matter how to deal with prejudice, as long as you look at them not to be influenced.

Write in the comments what you think.
