Mohammed Morsi is jailed

0

Hi guys!

A few days ago, I read an article on a website called "BBC online" and it talked about
the former Egyptian president Morsi, who has been jailed for 20 years. I want you to know more about it, so I give you a short press review about the article.

Mohammed Morsi was the first free elected president in Egypt. He was the successor of Hosni Mubarak.

Basically it says, that Morsi has been jailed for 20 years, because he has ordered to arrest and torture protesters during his tenure. He has been president of Egypt for 1 year from June 30th, 2012 till July 3rd, 2013.

It has been the first conviction since the end of his tenure. He has been deposed by the military in July 2013. Since then, the authorities have banned his Muslim Brotherhood movement and arrested thousands of his supporters. Morsi and 14 other Brotherhood figures escaped a more serious charge of inciting the killing of protesters, which could have carried the death sentence.
Most of the other defendants were also given 20-year prison sentences. Morsi's legal team have said they will appeal.

In my opinion, is this decision equitable, because every criminal deserves his punishment. There is always a reason, why a human isn't longer president of a country. I'm anyway a fan of democracy, that's why I think a dictatorship shouldn't exist anymore.

What do you mean?
